A Program for Trailblazers

The Principia Scholars Program celebrates driven students by providing them with 1:1 SAT/ACT tutoring—completely for free.

Since our company’s founding, we have been dedicated to individualized, high-quality tutoring. Starting in 2024, we are working to make our test prep services more accessible to exceptional students from all different economic backgrounds.

Often, students are told to just keep trying harder to reach their goals. Through the Principia Scholars Program, we aim to recognize the hard work students have put into their education and gift them with an opportunity to keep them moving forward. The logo for the Principia Scholars Program is a geometric ripple, which represents the compounding effects of our actions and hard work while also drawing on the idea of water and its calming effects to help remind us to appreciate all we have already accomplished.

We can’t wait to work alongside you as you prep for your college entrance exam!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who will be my instructor?

You will most likely have two instructors: one who teaches Reading/Writing and one who teaches Math. Some of our instructors can teach both sides of the test, but you will still be meeting with them for two hours a week. Our instructors will choose you based on your application, so make sure to let your personality shine through, so we can get to know you better! If you want to get to know us better, feel free to check out our team here.

What if my family’s income is too high to qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, but we are still facing financial hardship?

Right now, we are prioritizing applications from students who meet the application requirements and can provide proof of state or federal financial aid. If you would like to still apply and explain to us your family’s financial situation, please email us by clicking the “Contact Us” button at the bottom of this page.

What does it mean to be driven?

When we say we’re looking for driven students, we mean students who will work hard in sessions, complete their assigned homework, and be engaged throughout the eight weeks of the program. We do not expect perfection or that every concept on the SAT/ACT will come easily. The students who will benefit the most from this program are the ones who are eager to learn, and those are the students with whom we want to collaborate.

Can I still be apply if I haven’t taken any AP classes?

Of course! Since students have differing access to AP courses, taking them isn’t a requirement to apply. With that said, we do want to see that you have challenged yourself academically, so you can express this through your transcript or essays.

I’m currently in ninth grade and would like to take the SAT early. Can I still apply?

We designed the Principia Scholars Program to help students who need SAT/ACT tutoring the most—those students would be current sophomores or juniors in high school. If we have available slots, you could be placed. If not, we’d love for you to apply next year.

If my GPA is slightly lower than a 3.0, can I still apply?

While we will prioritize students whose GPA is 3.0 or higher, we do understand that grades sometimes don’t tell the whole story. Make sure to share your story through the essays on the application, so we can get to know you and your story better.

Some colleges and universities are going test-optional. Do I even need to take a college entrance exam?

While some schools are going test-optional, others are acknowledging the findings that test scores are beneficial for admitting a socioeconomically diverse group of students. If you would like to read more about this, you can read Dartmouth College’s report on its findings here, or you can listen to this segment on NPR about why MIT was one of the first schools to bring back college entrance exams after the COVID-19 pandemic.

I have already taken a college entrance exam and feel confident in my score, but could I use my admission into the Principia Scholars Program for academic tutoring?

At this point, we are just focusing on providing SAT/ACT tutoring through the Principia Scholars Program. Moving forward, we do hope to expand and hopefully provide free academic tutoring as well.

If I used to live in the DMV area but have since moved to a new state, can I still apply?

For this first round of the Principia Scholars Program, we want to invest in our immediate community, which is the DMV, but we are hoping to expand our reach in the future. Check back for updates!
